MISSION STATEMENT
YAP is dedicated to provide opportunities and services for youth in need, in a safe supportive environment based upon the principles of respect, equality, diversity, personal responsibility, acceptance, belonging and fun for the purpose of assisting and encouraging youth to enhance their lives and reach their goals.
History:
The need for services specifically designed for youth and in particular youth at risk is not a novel idea. In Prince George, the Youth Around Prince Resource Centre (YAP) was developed in response to community and government demand for changes withing the child welfare system.
What was heard with regards to services to youth was:
# services need to be HOLISTIC
# youth need to be able to TRUST the people that provide the service
# youth want a VOICE in the process
# services need to meet THEIR needs.
The unit of the Ministry of Children and Family Development Servicing Child, Family and Community Services Act continuing custody wards and Adoption Act clientele was assigned the task of developing YAP. The Centre first opened it’s doors in February of 1997.
Philosophy:
Services at Youth Around Prince Resource Centre are co-located, multi-discipline, integrated and youth centered. Services to youth are in an environment that is responsive to the evolving needs of youth.
As a community, we believe that a supportive environment embracing the principals of respect, equality, diversity and fun will encourage acceptance and belonging and will assist people to reach their goals.
Our sincere thanks to the Community of Prince George for the ongoing support and encouragement!
